Mount Murud a mountain hike to heal the soul 14 days Sarawak Borneo

Responsible Tourism

It was time for a change of scenery.

The sandstone mountain in northeast Sarawak bordering

Kalimantan stands at 2,423m. Over the decades, the mountain has hosted many scientists who come to study its flora and fauna.

But Mount Murud is deemed a holy mountain by the Lun Bawang and Kelabit people who inhabit the area, mainly in Long Semado, Bakelalan and Bario. Every year, thousands of pilgrims from the Borneo Evangelical Church (Sidang Injil Borneo), as well as other churches, ascend to Church Camp (1,829m) for a retreat.
